The task of coming up with suitable songs for Feb 14 is proving more difficult than I suspected. So far I've comtemplated but ultimately rejected GnR's Used to Lover Her and Springsteen's I'm on Fire, both for being not quite family friendly enough.

I fear that only happy songs are going to end up working out. If anybody has any suggestions I'll be happy to do the leg work of creating the handouts. I have a mild preference for anti-love songs but would be willing to take on (non-anti-)love songs. Any suggestions?

Love stinks, you give love a bad name

Opinions, please. Do you prefer style A:

G - - - - - - - - D - - - - - - - - - - Am
Momma, take this badge off of me,

Or style B:

[G] Momma, take [D] this badge off of [A] me,

Note: dashes added to option A because comments aren't displayed in monospace font, so the spaces in between were collapsing.

I'm a fan of "50 ways to leave your lover"
http://www.guntheranderson.com/v/data/fiftyway.htm

and "I'm beginning to see the light"
[Cm] I've never cared [C7] much for [Cm] moonlit skies...
I've [Cm] never winked [C7] back at [Cm7] fireflies...
but [Cm] now when those [C7] stars are [D6] in your [E7] eyes...
I'm [A7] beginning to [open] see the [Cm] light

that's best as I can remember from memory looking at a chord chart, but hopefully you get the idea.

Shane, style A is best I think.

Rob,

We have a chart for that song in the songbook. Same key. Awesome tune!

Paul,

You Give Love a Bad Name went over really well last night. I'm not sure we did it justice, but it was obviously enjoyed by many. Thanks for the great suggestion.

Shane,
Glad to hear it. Sorry I couldn't be there to inaugurate Bon Jovi into ukedom.

Paul,

Do you typically try to do themes surrounding holidays, or was this love/anti-love theme a one-time event? I ask because I just found a version of Show Me the Way to Go Home that might be appropriate to introduce on St. Patrick's Day. Not that I have to wait until then to bring it, but it might build anticipation amongst the masses (OK, perhaps I'm reaching a bit w/ the anticipation thing).

Hello. I got a uke for Christmas and have been having great fun with it. Now I would like to meet other enthusiasts and try jamming. I live in Chatham County, and yours is the nearest group that I have found.

I would like to drop in for the beginner's session this coming Monday (the 18th). Do I need to formally sign up or anything? I'll bring my uke and tuner - is that all I need?

Looking forward to it!
